Made a trip to Walmart for some last-minute things for baby and ended up with a couple things that weren’t on the list. I don’t know about yall but this happens to me a little too often lol. These finds were just too good to pass up though! I grabbed this black slip dress and added a belt and a pop of print with the shoes. The booties are also a great find for under $50 and super comfortable! This outfit is perfect for fall but you can also wear right now, even in this Houston heat. I just sized up for the bump to an L but would say tts otherwise. I feel like I have been all about shopping Walmart Fashion lately since I can find on-trend pieces at such great prices. I know I won’t be able to wear these pieces much longer since the baby could come any day now so these affordable finds are perfect! Here are a couple of other things I loved below!
I wanted to share some pregnancy musts that I probably would not have been able to live without during the last 9-10 months. I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know about pregnancy and what to expect lol! I was so excited to be pregnant during the summer so I can just wear dresses but didn’t realize how much I would swell because of the heat. You win some and loose some! Below are some of my amazon orders that saved me!
My Prego Musts
Prego Pillow: I refused to purchase one the first few months and honestly didn’t really need one without a bump but now, I can’t imagine a nights sleep with out it! Actually around 30 weeks I was sleeping at a hotel without one and woke up SO tired and in so much pain. I ordered one originally from a friends recommendation but it was MASSIVE. It took over the entire bed, it was bigger than me so I couldn’t properly snuggle it right, and I felt like the material was itchy. I then ordered this one off of a whim and can’t live without it! I also am a big fan of the velvet cover!
Compression Socks: I had NO idea compression socks were a thing until I started flying and noticing I started to swell. I either mentioned it to y’all over on IG or somewhere and so many people recommended compressions! They squeeze your feet, ankles and legs super tight. Being prego during the summer in this Texas heat is NO freaking joke. I’ve already gone about 2.5 shoe sizes bigger lolol super shocked and hope they come back! At least 10s are always discounted so I have been justifying it that way to buy new pairs of shoes lol! These compression socks help with the swelling along with a bunch of ice packs and elevated feet lol
Silicon ring: along with swollen feet come swollen hands. My wedding ring no longer was fitting so I got a cheap one off of amazon and love it! Ted actually wears a silicon band as his wedding band 365 days of the year lol more function-able and easier to replace!
Facial Sunscreen: This helped with malasma that came about during my second trimester. I never really took the steps to wear sunscreen unless it was already in another product before pregnancy. I then started to notice a major difference in using this product! I never had malasma before so one day I just woke up thinking I just didn’t take my make up off properly the night before. Little did I know lol! I also have learned during this pregnancy that my skin has been SUPER dehydrating so lots of this Vitamin E serum and moisturizer. Other than that, I would check with your doctor about skin care!
Belly band: My friend Hollie told me about this little gem since she was walking the other
Maternity belt: During the end, my back has taken a toll from all the weight. This belly belt helps with the support and I can always tell a difference when I wear it.
Prenatals: These are super important to take! I get this question quit a bit so thought I would link them for y’all! I also was taking care / of prenantals but I just ran out of them so I bought this bottle.
Water Jug: I have been using the hospital one but before that I was using this one! Keeping hydrated is so important!
Epsom Salt: I try to soak in the bath with this to help with muscle relief 1-2x a week!
Robe / Blanket / *Cardigan: I have become a material SNOB during this pregnancy and only want soft things on me so barefoot dreams has been my go to. I am taking this blanket and cardigan (on sale) to the hospital. First thing I do every morning is wake up and either put on this robe or cardigan.
Intimates: walking around the house or going to bed again I have been so picky about material so I sleep with this little bralette! I have so many of them now! Also have been wearing thispj set since Friday bc its so soft from Amazon!
Jeans: I tried to avoid jeans my entire pregnancy since it was spring and summer. Getting jeans on in the Houston heat was hard lol. But I did find the Good American maternity jeans that I liked along with these maternity shorts!
Help with Labor // I am by no means an expert (hello first child) but I have done research and talked to ladies about what has helped them with labor. To each its own and these are pretty much old tales but thought I would share this interesting list! Again consult with your doctor!
I haven’t done an Amazon haul in a while so thought I would do a massive one! I am SO impressed with the quality and price of all these items. Keep in mind I don’t share the “misses” that come in! All of these items are GREAT transitional pieces to take you into the new season and you can wear them now! All items are prime 2 day shipping for around $20ish dollas. Keep in mind if they get an influx in orders, they will take away the prime option! Yay lmk if you have any questions in the comment box! Hope you enjoy!
I will be purchasing this pullover in another color because the material is SO good. Nothing screams fall more than this Carmel color. It is one size fits all and pretty snug if you noticed on the videos but great for high waisted items in your closet!
This skirt comes in a bijjilion colors and I am so darn impressed! The color in real life is light coco how it looks online but for some reason on camera it is pulling up a lighter pink. You can’t go wrong with any color – I immediately ordered it in black and hunter green too
This is probably one of my top 5 pieces from this entire capsule! ITS SO DARN CUTE!! You can wear it with leggings, jeans, I just went free for all because the belly is big lol I ordered a xl just for it to be extra oversized. I am 5’3 for reference!
This is the dress y’all went crazy over all year long in white. If you read the comments here, clearly everyone that has ordered it, has loved it! I got the black to also show y’all since the white is limited on sizing. SO worth it and great for any special occasion, office wear, etc. Also don’t judge on the shoes lol! I don’t have any nude pumps currently that fit!
Have seen these a lot around town and knew I needed to snag one up for breast feeding / all the things. I ordered from a couple of brands so I can compare for y’all and this was hands down the best material
Heres another tank dress that I keep ordering in different colors but honestly its pretty sheer so it needs like a cardigan, chambray top, or something around it!
This is a SUPER light material that can be worn now! I have worn it a few times and does already have fuzzies but I think its still stylish and worth for the price! I will be ordering in another color!
You can wear this as a dress or a layering piece! I should have gotten a medium for the layering piece because it is a LOT of material. I am very impressed by the thickness of it, that will be great for fall crisp days!
Welp, I guess this was long overdue. I promise I wasn’t trying to avoid this yes I was but it’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post….and unfortunately lucky for you, today’s the day lol.
I’m going to start off with an honest story, one that Dede hasn’t even heard yet (by the time you’re reading this, she probably has read it – and I’ll let you know how the response went lol). We decided to celebrate our anniversary Friday night for a few reasons.
1. Dede only has the energy to leave the house once a day at this point, and we had plans last night, and today was church, which left Friday as the best option for us
2. Ok there was only one reason; but “a few reasons” just sounds better though, so I went with it lol
During our dinner, we had ordered our appetizers, and we began chatting a bit about economy and politics (and by economy and politics, I mean Dede’s opinion on the best value of a designer purse and my feedback on her thought process. As you can tell, she was driving the conversation lol). Trying to avoid answering trick questions, (FYI all of Dede’s questions are trick questions) I immediately diverged the conversation by saying, “Honey, I’ve been thinking about our past 7 years together, and I thought it would be nice by giving you one word to explain each year that we have been together”.
Great comment, right? I’ve changed the conversation and now she thinks I am a total sweetheart! Here’s the issue. I have a disorder where I say things that I’m completely unprepared for. I didn’t have “one word” for each year. I just was trying to change the topic of conversation (I mean c’mon….can you blame me!?) And here I was, setting up myself for a speech that I was completely unaware that I was doing, and the best part, it was my idea. Fantastic job Ted!
But something happened, as I was talking to her, I realized that I did have one word for every year. It was like the second I began thinking about every year we had together, a word just popped up. Now hear me out, I’m not a genius (yes, yes, you already knew that), which means that 100% God intervened, and I think He wanted me to look back on our marriage to reflect on how we got to this point, and how He was there through it all. So, below is a little summary of our conversation that I wanted to share with you all.
Year 1: Adventure
Dede’s mom is a flight attendant, so thanks to free flights on standby, we flew everywhere! A 2-day trip to Belize here, a 1-night trip to Salt Lake City there, and on and on. Airbnb was our best friend (and prevented us from going broke lol). With all the adventure, came some discovery as well. Which lead to year 2.
Year 2: Endurance
Something happened year 2, we just weren’t connecting as well as we did year 1. I became frustrated with a lot of little things with Dede, and she wasn’t having it either. Granted, nothing ever came too far to the point that it would hinder our relationship at all, but we just weren’t having much fun anymore. If you all know me, I’m not “ok” with just an “ok” marriage. I want an awesome marriage, and I knew we needed help.
Half-way through the year, we signed up for Christian Counseling with a licensed therapist, and by far, this was the best decision for our marriage. We learned so many things about ourselves and each other, and what it means to live sacrificially for the other. Again, nothing was “fixed” immediately, but we each learned a process on how we can better our marriage.
Side note: I highly recommend this for anyone that is struggling in their relationship, or for couples that just want strengthen their marriage. I love that we did counseling together, and that we’ve been open about our struggles to others. It’s a very useful tool that should be utilized!
Year 3: Revitalization
Don’t call it a come back! Year 3 was a big growth year for us together. I was starting my MBA program at UH, and Dede was about to graduate from UH with her undergrad. Our marriage was growing with each other and our adventures together were so much fun! It felt good to enjoy each other again!
Year 4: Patience
Our marriage was great, but our time with each other was so limited. Between work and my MBA program, I maybe had a few hours of free-time each week. Also, Dede was a wedding event planner, so she was out most Fridays and Saturdays. Needless to say, we had to learn to make time for each other where we could. She would meet me for lunch at work somedays – I would bring her food to her job – whatever it was, we MADE the time. But we had to learn that this for a short period of time, and we had to be patient through it all.
Year 5: Persistence
Welp, this was the year I convinced Dede that corporate world was for her, and this was also the year that Dede realized quickly that she didn’t want any of it lol. In response, Dress Up Buttercup was formed, and with all my skepticism (not in Dede, but with the industry), Dede was persistent to make it work, and to show me that it could.
Year 6: Opportunity
Well, Dede did just that. She was able to make this her full time job, and then here I was, taking photos of her somehow (all the time) and getting the hang of it lol. In the meantime, I got a big promotion at work, and had the opportunity to work in South Korea for a long period of time for a pretty big project at HP. Individually, our careers were great! But things were changing quickly.
Year 7: Growth
Literally, Dede’s belly was growing lol. But outside of our family growing, I decided to start my own company (www.trend-mgmt.com – shameless plug alert lol) and we had to deal with a lot of things together as well, like Dede’s mom being diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer. We learned how to be strong in times of adversity, and how to encourage each other when the other was dealing with a tough situation. We grew together because of those tough times, and now we are thankful for it.
Often times, we are so caught up in the day-to-day that we forget to look back to remind ourselves how we got here. I feel like our wedding was yesterday, and 7 years later, we’ve got a baby girl on the way! I can’t thank God enough for how much He has blessed me, with the good times and the bad, and I’m thankful that he allowed me to look back on it Friday during our dinner.
I like to usually end these with a verse, so I’ll use the one that Dede and I love to recite together to remind us of the bigger picture. Psalm 91:4 “He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”
If you made it this far, I apologize lol, but you definitely deserve an award!
