Hurricane Harvey

Hey y’all, I just wanted to keep you updated with Hurricane Harvey here in Houston. Majority of Houston has been effected by the flood and it breaks my heart. So many of our friends, family, and the community of Houston have had their houses flooded and needed to evacuate. We currently have a friend who is all alone with no power, a low battery, and stuck in a flood zone. Majority of my families homes are asking to be evacuated. All the photos and stories that we have heard over the last 72 hours have been devastating. I have had tears all day watching the news and seeing photos on Facebook of unbelievable sights.

Thank you for all the sweet messages checking up on us. We are safe and sound, but sadly many of our friends have not been as fortunate.  It has been beautiful to watch Houston come together and help one another in a time of need. A few of you have asked how you can help and I wanted to share:

  • The power of prayer, y’all! Prayer is so strong and the Lord is in control! Not only for Houston, but for Texas in general and what Hurricane Harvey’s next move is. Also pray for the levee’s that will continue to hold the water and not overflow.
    • “But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid?” Psalm 56:3
  • There are a few organizations starting fundraisers because Houston and homes will need to be repaired after this is all over:
    • American Red Cross
      • text HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation (will add to your phone bill)
      • call 1-800-RED CROSS
    • JJ Watt Houston Flood Relief
      • Houston Texans football player JJ Watt has started a fundraiser of his own #lovehim
    • @mv_emergencyroom is accepting donations for individuals at GRB convention center . The ER Doctors at MVER have been donating their time to aide those who need medical attention and want to give back to those who lost everything . Please spread the word, anything helps! www.memorialvillageer.com 14520 Memorial Dr.Houston TX,77079

I saw this chain that was going around on Facebook that I thought was helpful:

For my non-Houston friends- to help you understand the devastation:
Houston is huge.

The greater metropolitan area is circled by the Grand Parkway – which is 170 miles long. That makes the area of the circle inside the Grand Parkway over 2200 sq. miles.

2200 square miles of densely habited, urban and suburban, areas is flooded.

Imagine if the entire state of Delaware, with twice the population of Manhattan, was under water.

That’s Houston.
It’s still raining.

Dress: Top Shop | Shoes: Sam Edelman | Purse: Gucci | Earrings: Switch Jewelry |  Watch: Michael Kors | Bracelet: David Yurman | Bracelet: David Yurman

This was one of the dresses that I was going to wear for our anniversary shoot Ted and I did a couple weeks back! It is so elegant and makes such a statement and Ted LOVED it. The only reason why I didn’t wear it was because I wanted a pop of color for our shoot and I came across this playful one which was more me. I still couldn’t part ways with this dress so I kept it and I got to play dress up with it for this look!

I have been dreaming about investing in Chanel earrings and a Hermes bracelet for a couple years now and those pieces really do glam up this dress. I got them both from Switch, a subscription company for designer jewelry (think Netflix but Jewelry). I have tried this concept before but it wasn’t designer pieces. I love that I can “rent” these pieces that I actually have been thinking of purchasing for years now. My logic is, when I give it back, and still want it, I know I have to have it!

Any who I thought this dress and Switch concept would be good for any bride to be out there! Once I put on this dress, I immediately thought rehearsal dinner dress or date night!

Well, happy Friday babes! FINALLY made it to the weekend! We have hurricane Harvey coming for us and I am praying it isn’t bad. I stocked up on waters and a few snacks but I am sure we will be fine. Emily and I have a flight out to Cabo on Saturday so fingers crossed everything is good and we can jetset to Cabo for a few nights! A beach and some sun sounds SO nice right about now!

PS if you are looking into trying switch, they are giving everyone 50% off your first month. Code: buttercup and expires 12/31!

All I need is a pumpkin spice latte in my hand to complete this fall look! I can’t believe I am actually saying this out loud, but I kinda am excited for the cooler weather! With cooler weather comes pumpkin spice everywhere and this burnt orange / black stripe screams that.

I was getting dressed for an event yesterday and was kinda not wanting to get ready. I came across this tee and all I wanted to do was wear a tee. This stripe tee is super cozy and I was already wearing it all day and didn’t want to take it off. I ordered this skirt in orange and blue a while back (comes in 6 colors) and thought it would be so cute to pair together! It came together perfectly and I am loving this look!It reminds me a lot of a teacher look and it’s a good way to dress up a stripe tee. Comfortable yet stylish, thats kinda the goal everyday!

Happy Thursday! This week has gone by a tad bit slow for me. I think its been all the work and less play I have been doing. I am gearing up for a crazy busy schedule and the only way to do that is by preparation. Prepping is KEY! Doesn’t mean I won’t have sleepless nights coming my way, but will make things a little manageable.

I finally am getting around to sharing my Natural Beaded Rows! I know I am doing something right when I get an influx of direct messages (love hearing from y’all) and lately my hair + this lip color has been the hot topic! I did a hair tutorial on how I curl my hair here, not so long ago (full blog post here). Shortly after, I went to my hair doctor, Carlos, who recommended Natural Beaded Rows for extensions! I didn’t really do much research before going to the appointment since I trust Carlos. I have been going to him for the past 4 years and haven’t had anyone else cut / color my hair! Long story short, I didn’t really do much research before going to get these done but I have researched a lot after. I have gotten so many questions that I decided to do a quick FAQ on them!

What extensions are these?

Natural Beaded Rows by DWK styling. More about it here!

Your thoughts?

These have been amazing and I forget half the time that they are in my hair.

The maintenance?

Every 6-8 weeks I need to get the beads moved up again (apparently this is a fast process). Similar to the tape-in extensions! Also it does take me about 30 extra minutes to blow dry and style my hair because of the extra hair!

Can you put your hair up?

YES – I love that you can pull up your hair and not worry about anything sticking out. I also have done half up and half down without a problem!

How long does it take to put in?

You are in and out of the chair in about 3-4 hours. They will color match your hair and bead you up in one sitting! For my hair specifically, they added 2 rows.

Do they hurt?

I don’t think they hurt but the first day my head was a little itchy.  Now can’t feel them at all! They are super light weight.

Where did you go?

Carlos from Trademark has been doing my hair for years. He flew up to California and has been studying / mastering the NBR technique. There are only a few in Texas who are certified and I HIGHLY recommend Trademark! Even if it’s for a cut or color! If you have any other additional questions, i.e, cost, type of hair, process, etc, feel free to give them a call!
